Laura D. Wash was born August 8, 1933 in Rosedale, Mississippi. She was the eleventh of fifteen children to the union of Sam and Pearl Ricks. All have precededed her in death except her baby sister, Gladys Harris. She was married to Earnest Wash, Sr. on December 25, 1947 until he passed away April 1, 2010. They had eight children; Earnest, Jr., Arthur, Sr., Albert, Sr., Phil, Carolyn, Annette, Barbara and Henry. They cared for two sisters Rochelle Gordon and Regina Woods whom they loved as their own. Laura accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was an active member of Starlight Missionary Baptist Church since 1968. She wore many hats, sang in the choir, worked on the usher’s board and many other roles until her illness. She loved the Lord, her family and church home until the end when she departed on Friday, August 23, 2019. Laura was a dedicated wife and mother. Family meant everything to her. She spent her whole life dedicated to nurturing, teaching, developing her kids, grandchildren and any child that was in her presence with her unconditional love. She had a heart and a sweet spirit that could brighten any room. Her most satisfaction and fulfillment come from serving others a hot meal. She never met a stranger who didn’t become a friend. She was truly a Proverbs 31 Woman. She has left her mark in everyone hearts and will be greatly missed by her five sons, Ernest, Jr. (Patricia), Arthur, Sr., Albert, Sr. (Donna), Lash LaRue, Henry (Trina); four daughters; Annette Grubbs (Joe), Barbara Powell (Jearld), Rochelle Gordon (Tyrone), Regina Woods; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Evangel Church. Visitation 9:00 A.M. Interment Forest Hill & Calvary Cemetery.
