Jane was born on October 3rd, 1930 in Mabton, WA to parents Frank and Esther Otis. She grew up in Silesia MT, the youngest of 14 children. Her birth certificate showed her only as “Baby girl Otis”, and family members called her Babe until she decided she wanted to be named Jane Lynette. She went to high school in Edgar, MT and during her time there she was a cheerleader and a star on the girls’ basketball team. Jane married Wallace (Wally) Steffan on Nov. 5, 1949.
