James’ Obituary James Clinton (Jim/Jimmy) Lawhon, 72, of Floresville, Texas returned home to his Heavenly Father on Friday, August 9, 2019. Jim was born June 17, 1947 in Floresville and graduated from Floresville High School in 1965, where he participated in football, basketball, track and many other school activities. He earned his Eagle Scout rank during high school and was honored to be King Reboog XXI in the Court of Spanish Gold at the Floresville Peanut Festival, 1965. Jim graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1970, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Business, and then joined the United States Navy where he served as a Naval Flight Officer, flying P3 Orions in the Pacific. Jim continued his education while in the Navy, earning his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Naval War College and a Masters of Arts from Webster University. He retired from military service as Lieutenant Commander in July 1991, after 21 years – serving the last 6 years as Security Officer for NAS Corpus Christi. In June 1969, Jim married the love of his life, Gloria Perez. For the rest of his days, Jim and Gloria’s family was the center of their world. Jim’s own father died when he was just 15, and that loss had a profound impact on his life. He cherished every moment with his family – particularly his six grandchildren; “Grandpa Jim” will be remembered for making his special French toast and bacon breakfast, taking the kids for long walks around his beloved ranch at Tordilla Hill, and being the “best, most loving Grandpa ever.” Jim lived his life as a model for all of us, with courage, dignity, and love of God, family, country, and his hometown. After retiring from the military, Jim and Gloria moved home to Floresville, where he was an active member of Floresville United Methodist Church and a frequent participant in local civic life. Jim believed in a duty to help others; wherever he saw a need, he did what he could to help. He quietly – and without fanfare – helped many, many people through his contributions to the Church, the local food pantry, and personal gifts. He never wanted any recognition for his efforts; he simply wanted to make Floresville a better place to live for everyone. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; his sons James Clinton II (and wife Patricia) and Matthew Brian (and wife Lauren); his grandchildren Zane, Caitlin, Ashleigh, Peyton, Ellie and Luke; sister Barbara Lawhon Davenport; sister-in-law Grace M. Perez; and many other family and friends (who are like family). Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Zane Briggs Lawhon and Mona Lothell Lawhon. A memorial service will be held at the Floresville United Methodist Church, at a later date. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Building Fund at FUMC or to the charity of one’s choice. Till Gabriel blows his horn… Read More
