Mr. James Boyd Watkins, age 85, passed away Sunday August 11, 2019 at his residence. A memorial service will be 3:00pm Thursday at Good Shepherd Church of Greensboro. The family will receive friends prior to the service. Mr. Watkins was born, in Guilford county, to the late William and Martha Harrelson Watkins. He served in the United States Navy. He loved his country and was an avid believer in voting. He was employed with Gilbarco for many years and was a self-employed painter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph Watkins and Sherman Watkins; sisters Brenda Barnett and Martha Blevins; and great-grandson Cerin Savath. James is survived by his wife of 56 years Sylvia Maness Watkins of Greensboro; daughters Lisa Taylor and husband Ronnie of Greensboro, Amy Fields and husband Jim of Greensboro, and Celeste Tucker and husband Lonnie of Colfax; siblings Audrey Curtis, Amanda Cross, Cindy Duncan, and Billy Watkins. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Melissa Leveridge, Stephanie Taylor, James Taylor, Brandon Fields, Olivia Fields, Madelyn Tucker, and Katelyn Tucker; five great-grandchildren; Seth Williams, Eli Savath, Penelope Leveridge, Jaimeson Taylor, and Amelia Savath. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association 430 W. Friendly Ave. Greensboro, NC 27401. George Brothers Funeral Service is assisting the family of Mr. Watkins.
