Maphis, 88, of Romney, WV passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019 at Hampshire Center, Romney, WV. Born on February 28, 1931 in Kirby, WV, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Peters and Elsie Nichols Peters. She was a member of the Romney Town Council for 28 years, a member of the G.F.W.C, the V.F.W., and the Romney United Methodist Church. She had been a telephone operator with GTE/Verizon. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dailey Lee Maphis on July 28, 2002, a daughter, Diane Wright, on Dec. 18, 2018 and a brother, Leo Peters. She is survived by a son, Michael Bowman, of Romney, WV, a granddaughter, Melinda Ruby (Brian) of Stratford, CT; two brothers, Larry Peters (Virginia) of Winchester, VA, Charlie Peters (Charlotte) of Florida; a brother-in-law, Bob Maphis of Richmond, VA; a niece, Vera Herriott (Lucian) of Fort Ashby, WV; great-grandchildren, Kristen and Justin; nephews, John Maphis (Marge) of Winchester, VA, Bill Maphis (Barbara) of North Carolina and many other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 16,2019 at 11:00 A.M. at McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Romney, WV with Pastor Mark James officiating. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV. The family will receive friends on Thursday, 6-8 PM, at the funeral home. All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Romney, WV.
