Howard Lenwood Smart, Sr., 94, of Danville, VA departed this life on Thursday, August 29, 2019. Howard was born in Danville, VA on April 21, 1925 a son of the late Ernest Smart and Sallie Kate Pruitt Smart. Howard worked as a sales clerk for Link-Watson Corporation. He served in the US Army during WWII and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of American Legion Post # 1097. He married Rebecca Mays Smart, who died on December 15, 2008. Survivors include two sons, H. Lenwood Smart, Jr., (Deborah), Dennis Smart (Linda Lewis); former daughter-in-law, Denise Smart; three grandchildren, Robbie Smart, Amy S. Golitz, Christina Smart; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife three brothers, William, Cooper, and Butch Smart; and a sister, Sallie Kate Keatts, predeceased him. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the graveside at Highland Burial Park conducted by the Rev. Daryl Joyce. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00-7:30 PM at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Smart family.
