Herbert Eugene Correll, age 77, of Chanute, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 in St. Paul, KS. He was born July 26, 1942 in Edwardsville, IL, the son of Homer and Lillian (Hoffman) Correll. Herb graduated from Edwardsville High School and then graduated from Fayette Methodist College with a degree in music education. Herb met Julia Speers in 1965 and they were married on June 11, 1967 in King City, MO. Herb taught school for 2 years then was drafted in 1967 in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served Army for four years and was honorably discharged. After the army, Herb taught for 30 more years before retiring from the Chanute schools in 2005. He loved music and loved to teaching kids even more. He played in the Brass Art in Chanute and was the First Baptist Church choir director for four years. He played a role in so many people’s lives and he will be greatly missed. Herb is survived by his wife Julia Correll, son, Randy E. Correll and wife Brigid and their daughters: Julia and Maggie of Richmond, VA; daughter, Kimberly Anne Correll Ford and her son, Ryan of Rogers, AR; siblings, David Correll; and Marian Correll of Portland, OR. Cremation has been requested. The family will be holding a memorial service on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Chanute, KS.
