George’s Obituary George Newell Gary, age 89, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at his home. George was born June 3, 1930 in Cornland, Missouri, son of the late Henry E. Gary and Cecil Jane Newell Gary. He graduated from Rich Hill High School, and attended several schools over the years working on his career in insurance. He attended the University of Oklahoma Arson School, and the Lafayette School of Tort Law. He began his career working for Tracy Body Repair and Paint in Rich Hill for awhile before joining MFA Mutual Insurance, and later Shelter Insurance as a claims adjuster which he did for over 33 years. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and lived in Phoenix, Arizona for some time before moving back to Lowell, Arkansas, and then back to Joplin. George was a member of Villa Heights Christian Church, and the Elks Lodge #2715, Grove, Oklahoma where he was a past Exalted Ruler. He also enjoyed his time in retirement living on Grand Lake. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 65 years, Faye Ileen Coffey Gary, who passed away June 1, 2015, a son, Randy Gary, and a daughter, Vickie Gary. Survivors include his children, Diana Lea Hulstine of Webb City, and Denise Lynn Patterson and husband Loyd of Carl Junction; grandchildren, Nicholas Patterson and wife Crystal of Webb City, Nathan Scott Gary of Joplin, and Emily Patterson of Fayetteville, Arkansas; great-grandchild, Elisabeth “Liz” Truelove. Memorial service will be Friday, August 30, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Johnie Adkins officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
