Sharp, 65, of Topeka, died Thursday, August 1, 2019 at the University of Kansas Health System, St. Francis Campus, in Topeka. He was born July 28, 1954 at Clay Center, the son of Dean and JoAnn Hannan Sharp. He graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka and served in the U.S. Marine Corps and Army National Guard. Gary had worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka and was retired from there. He was a member of the Rubber Worker’s Union and a former member of the Sunrise Optimist Club. He dedicated his time to helping people who were seeking sobriety. Gary coached his children’s baseball and softball teams when they were young and spent as much time as possible riding his Harley. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Cathy Chandler and Arlene Cathey. Survivors include a son, Kevin Sharp (Lindsey), Topeka; two daughters, Kendra Besenyi (Michael), Topeka and Kristi Patterson (Troy), Raymore, MO; one brother, David Sharp (Cindy), Shidler, OK and eight grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5th at the Topeka Community of Christ Church at 5252 SW 19th St. A Memorial Barbeque will be held on Saturday, August 10th at 4:00 p.m. at 2100 Central Park in Topeka. Memorials are suggested to the Midwest Transplant Network, 1900 W 47th Pl., Westwood, KS 66205, where Gary received the gift of life through a kidney transplant.
