Eric James Ohlund 72, longtime resident of Coventry, CT passed away Monday August 12, 2019. Born to John Arthur & Margaret Calitri Ohlund March 31st 1947 in Manchester, CT. Eric joins his beloved pre-deceased wife Bonnie Gove and is survived by his son Kyle; daughter-in-law Tonya; granddaughters Makalei & Lilah; brothers John, Dave and Steven and their wives Marsha, Kathy and Patricia; nieces & nephews Tonya, Shannon, Bryan, Luke, Leah & Emma. Eric is a graduate of Windham Technical School, class of 1966. As a youth he was very involved with the Scouts of America. Further down the road he became a member of the South Coventry Volunteer Fire Department where he became an EMT. Later he graduated the Porter Chester Institute having studied in the field of Technical Drafting. When asked to serve his country Eric joined the Army and climbed to the rank of SP4-T with the 5th of the 7th – First Cavalry and served in Vietnam from 1967-1969. Eric spent most of his working career in the civil engineering field connected to multiple firms and municipalities. Notably, he held the position of Clerk of The Works for the Town of Mansfield where he oversaw construction of the Storrs Village project and with the Town of Coventry supervising special projects throughout town. He held a strong sense of civic pride when it came to his hometown of Coventry holding positions in the Community Emergency Response Team and Chairmen of the Veterans Memorial Committee. He walked through life with pride, honesty, compassion and purpose. His friends and family will be celebrating his life on Saturday September 7th, 10:30am at the Presbyterian Church in Coventry located at 55 Trowbridge Road followed by a cemetery service and then a gathering of fellowship back at the church hall.
