Elaine Campbell Vernon, age 78, of Lawrenceville, Georgia died on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Sunrise of Johns Creek, surrounded by her family, after a brave fight against dementia. She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Cynthia “Cyndi” Vernon Smith and her husband Mike of Suwanee, GA; her beloved grandchildren, Sarah M. Smith of Brooklyn, NY, Abigale Smith of Atlanta, GA and Jacob S.C. Smith of Suwanee, GA; sister, Anita Campbell Baldwin and her husband Wayne of North Myrtle Beach, SC; niece, Holland “Holly” Yates and nephew, Jay Yates both of Greensboro, NC; other relatives and a host of friends. Elaine was born on December 14, 1941 in Williamston, South Carolina to Rupert Lee Campbell and Clara Lucille Holland Campbell. She graduated from Palmetto High School in Williamston and attended Anderson College. Elaine was an Associate Broker for Nelson-Rives Realty, Inc. in the Chamblee community for 40 years. She worked with residential as well as commercial clients in the sale and rental of their properties and was a regular member of the Dekalb Board of Realtors Million Dollar Club. Elaine was a remarkable seamstress, loved to read and was active with the Solo’s Ballroom Dance Club serving as their President at one time. She would knit and crochet hats, socks and other accessories for many of the shelters in the Gwinnett County area. Elaine’s greatest joy was her love for her Shih Tzu puppies and rescues. They brought great happiness to Elaine over the years and were such comfort in her life. You always knew where you stood with Elaine and when she said something…she meant it. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed by those that loved her during her lifetime. A Memorial Service Honoring Elaine’s Life will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with Minister Harold Savage officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday starting at Noon until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
