Edward P. Gay, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke, with his loving family by his side. Born November 6, 1928, son of the late Stephen and Sophia (Ziemba) Gaj, he was a lifelong Chicopee resident. Edward was a US Navy veteran of World War II and a retired thirty-five year welder for the former Uniroyal Co. He was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr and a member of the Elks Lodge 1849 and American Legion Post 337. Edward was predeceased in 1995 by his beloved wife, Irene Ora (Lavallee) Gay and is survived by two loving children, Susan M. Gay and husband Charles, of Belchertown, and Michael T. Gay and wife Mary, of Chicopee; three loving grandchildren, Alan M. Roberts and wife Karen, of Belchertown, David R. Roberts and wife Melissa, of Chicopee, and Michael T. Gay, Jr. and wife Gina, of Chicopee; six cherished great grandchildren, Ian Roberts, Justin Roberts, Emily Roberts, Leo Roberts, Lila Roberts and Carter Gay; a loving brother, Rudy Gay and wife Rose, of Chicopee; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Herman, Frank, Walter, Ted and Adam Gay. The family would like to express their gratitude to all who work at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke for their love and care shown to Edward. Funeral services for Edward will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 9AM from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St. Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 5-7PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
