September 28 1923 August 8 2019
DeLoris Mildred was born to Elvin Andrew and Mildred Anna (Pitts) Winters on September 28, 1923 east of Booker, Texas. She took the path home to Jesus August 8, 2019. Younger sister to Mellie Elvin and later older sister to Verl Eugene and sister Mary Elva Custer. One constant in her house from the very beginning was the Bible, learning about God, and prayer. At age 9 DeLoris accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and knew a change had taken place within her. Christian education, prayers, singing, reading the bible, and worship were enjoyed and instrumental in her spiritual growth and depth of faith. DeLoris was grateful for her heritage of Faith in Jesus Christ. 1940 was an important year in her life. She met a handsome young man on a blind date, named Dale Field. Dale learned quickly that in order to spend time with DeLoris he better come to grips with Jesus Christ. Dale served for 3 ½ years in the Army Air Force during WWII in New Guinea and New Caledonia, as an airplane mechanic. Upon the return home they were promptly married January 12, 1946 in the Friends Church of View Point near Booker, Texas. In 1947 DeLoris and Dale together rededicated their lives to Christ and it was at that time they both felt called into pastoral ministry, Dale as pastor and DeLoris as pastor’s wife. While attending Friends Bible College (Barclay College) in Haviland KS, son Gale was born. Janice was born while pastoring at Dale’s first church Prairie Vale near Coldwater Kansas. Sheryl was born during their second pastorate in North Branch Kansas just across the border into Red Cloud, Nebraska. They pastored together in Coldwater Kansas, North Branch Kansas, Lowell Kansas, Boise Idaho, Salem Oregon, Easton Kansas and Seiling Oklahoma. While Dale was on staff at Friends Bible College (‘70-‘80), one of her supportive roles was quilting with the Auxiliary for their annual fund raising auction. They also served as support to Pastors for Mid America Yearly Meeting of Friends church. The first time DeLoris flew on an airplane was in 1973. It wasn’t a short flight and it was all the way to Israel on a trip to the Holy Land. The memories and insights of that trip were very special. The time of seeing the places where Jesus grew up and ministered brought new and fresh insights to her Bible studies and Dales preaching. In 2001 Dale and De Loris retired to Dundee, Oregon. After Dale passed away in July of 2002 DeLoris was given the opportunity to move into Friendsview Retirement Community Newberg Oregon in 2004. Full honor is due to a woman of God, co-worker in the ministry of Christ’s church, mother to three believing children, an example to grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Dale, son Gale, and brother Verl and is survived by daughters, Janice (Mark) Thompson, Sheryl (Daryl) Chenoweth and Rusti (Gale) Field, along with six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was an Evangelical Friends Pastor’s wife and a member of the same denomination all her life. Memorial contribution may be made to Barclay College (attn.
