Obituary David Michael Laylor, 55, of Chesapeake, VA, graduated early to his heavenly home on August 7, 2019, after a long battle with head and neck cancer. Born in Norfolk, VA, he served in the Navy onboard the USS Ranger. Afterward, he worked as a machinist, paramedic, dialysis technician, and then for many years in computer and IT support. He was a member of Christian Embassy International Church where he served running the media ministry. He was lovingly regarded as the go-to geek by his clients and friends, and he was motivated by a heart to serve. He was fiercely devoted to his family. He will be greatly missed by all. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7 Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 17 years Melodie Laylor; sons, Cameron Dortch and his wife Haley, Daniel Ramos, and Joshua Laylor; daughters, Kristen (Ward) Higgins, Tifani (Dortch) McHam and her husband Caleb, Melissa Laylor, Angela Laylor, and Abigail Laylor; a brother, Steven Dortch and his wife Shan; sisters, Kelly (Laylor) Robinson and her husband Martin, Tammy Sue (Laylor) Davis and her husband Kendall; and 10 grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk, VA 23434 on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at 2 p.m. There will be a Celebration of Life service immediately following at Christian Embassy International Church, 1208 Centerville Turnpike, Chesapeake, VA 23320 at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oral Cancer Foundation or the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance.
