Dan Elmer Scott, 90, of Burlington, passed away at 8:45 AM Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born October 30, 1928, in Rome, IA, he was the son of Walter J. and Bertha Sophia Wilhelmina Danielson Scott. On June 27, 1950, he married Betty Lee Blake at the Methodist Church in Mediapolis. Dan owned and operated Scott Insurance Agency and Ebert’s Supply Company. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and of Elks Lodge #84 and Lions Club. Dan was a kind, loving, ambitious man who was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He always took care of his parents and family. Dan grew up on a family farm, north of Rome, where he learned how to work with animals and developed his diligent work ethic. He carried that into all of the businesses that he owned. He loved taking vacations with his family every summer. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean War from November 7, 1952 until August 20, 1954. Survivors include his wife, Betty Scott of Burlington; one son, Mark (Deb) Scott of Middletown, two daughters, Mary Ellen (Jerry) Stamp of Iowa City and Diane Lee (Ravi) Scott of Saint Louis, MO; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Dan was preceded in death by one brother, James Lee Scott, and one sister, Beverly Kaighin. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory. The memorial service for Dan will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Grace United Methodist Church with Pastor Tammi Wirt officiating. Full Military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held in Parish Hall at Grace United Methodist following the service. Inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Grace United Methodist Church.
