Charles “Charlie” Adams May 14, 1933 – August 29, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts View/Sign Guestbook| Memorial Donation Charles “Charlie” Samuel Adams, 86, passed peacefully Thursday, August 29, at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon NH. Charles was born at home on May 14, 1933 in Elkins, NH. The son of Lucy (Fournier) (Adams) Roberts and Roger Adams. He was the oldest child of his mother and father. He attended Canaan High School. After high school he met Marlene Faye Rocke. They wed on August 9, 1952. During his younger years he worked at the American Woolen Mill in Lebanon. After a sudden shut-down he worked at the First National Store. Shortly after that he purchased a convenience store known as Pleasant Valley, he and his wife operated the store while raising their family. In 1976 he sold the store and wore many hats during semi-retirement; working for the Town of Canaan as the welfare agent, cemetery agent and served on the select board. He also drove school bus and kept in touch with many of his students through their adulthood. He liked to brag about his perfect driving record. He had many passions; including his love of music. He had a country band, “Charlie and the Tuners” where his band played for many years throughout the area. He was known for playing his 12-string guitar. Often his friends and fellow musicians would gather, either camping or home playing their instruments. He also loved hiking, snowmobiling, skiing and camping. He loved to share his stories of hiking Tuckerman’s Ravine. His favorite adventure was his cross-country trip in his Winnebago that he took with his wife and friends during retirement. He loved telling stories and sharing any wisdom. He became friends with many on Facebook where his friends looked forward to his daily quotes and funny stories. He had a quick wit, loved jokes and sharp memory until the end. Charles was predeceased by his wife, Faye, of 55 years as well as his parents and two brothers, David and Roger Adams. His parents Roger Adams and Lucy Roberts. He is survived by his children, Brian Adams (Blanca), Norman Adams and Charlene Ashey (Douglas) as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Betty Kovacs (Austin), John Roberts (Lorraine) and Richard Roberts (Linda) as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his long-time companion, Katherine Long who passed away one week prior to Charles. A very special thank you to all the staff, volunteers and caregivers at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care in Lebanon. Words cannot express the compassion, caring and exceptional care given to Charles and his family during his final days. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated at the Jack Byrne Center or a hospice care facility of your choice. Graveside service will take place on Tuesday, September 3 at 11:00 am at Canaan Street Cemetery in Canaan, NH. Print Obituary
