Dunning (Greenfield Chapel) November 21, 1935 – August 23, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Billy Thomas Dunning, 83, a native and lifelong resident of Greenfield’s Stafford Store community, died August 23, 2019 surrounded by Betty Jane Smith Dunning, his wife of 62 years, and the family he cherished. Born to Onie Manns and Boyd Dunning, Billy never strayed far from his roots. A man of strong faith, he invested his time in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and in raising three daughters and one son. He was initially employed at Kellwood Company in Greenfield. After ten years, he moved to Phelan Ford Motor Company in Trenton where he remained until retirement 36 years later. He was an army veteran. Billy’s infectious smile and good nature warmed the hearts of those he had just met and the many friends who worshipped by his side at Pleasant Grove, where he was a deacon for 56 years. His faith sustained him as he was preceded in death by his son Gregory Glen Dunning, his son-in-law Bart Campbell, his grandson Brian Michael Peterson, his sister Vada Lou Drewery and his parents. He also took great pride in supporting the life events – both big and small – of his daughters Lavonda Gail Dunning Peterson (Mike) of Layfette, Georgia; Lesia Lynne Dunning Bills of Greenfield; Sherry Dawn Dunning Rinks (Jamie) of Bradford; and grandchildren Selena Brewer (Sean) of Lafayette, Brandon Campbell of McKenzie, Bret Peterson of Lafayette, Justin and Dakota Bills of Greenfield, and Kristen and Maddie Hall and Holden and Brantly Rinks, all of Bradford. The devout family man was only days away from greeting the birth of his first great grandchild Brielle Campbell Brewer of Lafayette. He is also survived by a brother James Edward Dunning (Pat). Visitation is scheduled for 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. tonight at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. The funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 25, at the funeral home, with burial following at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. P.J. Scott, Rev.
