Anna Jane Fontenot November 14, 1943 – August 22, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card LAWTELL ~ Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 24, 2019 at a 1:00 p.m. Liturgy of the Word in St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell for Anna M. Fontenot, age 75, the former Anna Miller, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2019 surrounded by her loved ones at her residence in Opelousas. Interment will be in St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell. Deacon Joubert will officiate at the services. Giftbearers will be Maurice McFarland, Landon Duplichan and Bryson Alleman. Mrs. Fontenot was a native and lifelong resident of Lawtell. She had been employed with Med Express for five years and also owned a ceramic shop, A&C Ceramics, and baked wedding and birthday cakes. Anna was a parishioner of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, was a member of the Red Hat Club and she was the President of Lawtell Homemakers. She enjoyed playing Bouree and was a Pokeno queen. Mrs. Fontenot had a very active life. She was stubborn and so loved. She was affectionately referred to as “Gangsta Granny” even by grown men. She loved her children and her grandchildren and helped to raise many of them. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Kay Fontenot and Pamela Ann Fontenot, both of Lawtell; two brothers, Roosevelt Miller and his wife, Sharon, of Kinder, and Francis Miller and his wife, Ora Mae, of Prairie Ronde; two sisters, Irene Miller Doucet and LeeAnna Miller Kidder, both of Lawtell; her grandchildren, Brandy Guidry (Keith), Cody Duplichan (Cassey), Casey Duplichan (Linton Noel), Paige Arnaud, Eric Arnaud, Jade Arnaud, Christian Fontenot, Samuel Fontenot (Brittney Mire); her great-grandchildren, Gaige Duplichan, Alexis Montgomery (Cass Hale), Destinie Guidry, Breanna Guidry, Gabrielle McFarland, Maurice McFarland, Bryson Alleman, Charlie Hodge, Roslyn Hodge, Macelyn Fontenot, Bentlee Fontenot, Riley Duplichan, Landon Duplichan, Renden Arnaud, Jocelyn Arnaud and Emjay Arnaud; and her great-great-grandchildren, Aleah Hale and Chase Hale. She also leaves behind a special friend, Mary Artigue. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curliss Joseph Fontenot; her parents, John Miller, Jr. and Ella Marie Savoie Miller; a daughter, Cindy Marie Ona Arnaud; and her brothers, Joseph Miller, Horace Miller, Lloyd Miller and George Miller. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Friday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the hospice staff, especially Anna, Tyler and Dr. Murphy. Pallbearers will be Keith Guidry, Cody Duplichan, Gaige Duplichan, Christian Fontenot, Linton Noel and Samuel Fontenot. Honorary Pallbearers will be Maurice McFarland, Bentlee Fontenot and Landon Duplichan. Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas, 4708 I-49 North Service Road, (337) 407-1907, is in charge of arrangements.
