Anita’s Obituary Anita Cardon Simmons passed away peacefully at her Hillsboro home on August 14, 2019, of natural causes. She was 80 years old. Anita was born October 16, 1938, in Durango, Colorado, to Joseph and Anna Marie Cardon. She grew up in Durango with two sisters and five brothers. After high school, she attended Brigham Young University to study education. While there, she met her husband of 61 years, Edward James Simmons. They were married in the Salt Lake City temple in 1958. After college, they moved to southern California. Anita briefly taught elementary school and went on to have 9 children. Anita enjoyed many hobbies like gardening, canning, sewing, quilting and family history work. She loved to dance with Edward, spend time outdoors and laugh with her family. In 1991 her family moved to Hillsboro, Oregon, after Edward retired from teaching. She was a devoted wife and mother. Her life was spent caring for her family and serving in her church. She volunteered in many organizations of the Hillsboro Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Edward also served four missions for their church. She was preceded in death by her daughter Michele; two sisters, Ellen and Loree; and her brother Philip. Anita is survived by her husband, Edward; 8 children Jacque, Andre, Jon Pierre, Erick, Antoine, Celeste, Stefan and Yvette; 24 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and four brothers Neil, Boyd, Lavor and Ruland.
