September 27 1949 August 22 2019
Angela Victoria (Somacal) Gwartney, age 69, of Hurst, Texas, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 22, 2019. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00pm on Sunday August 25, 2019 at Lucas Family Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas. Per the family’s request, there will no additional memorial services at this time. Angela (Ange) was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Della (McCleery) and Angelo Somacal on September 27, 1949. She went to Shoteau High School in Shoteau, Oklahoma. In 1997, she graduated from Roger State College with her degree in nursing. She married and is survived by her wife and soul mate of almost 30 years, Joy Tillotson. She worked as a Certified Registered Nurse and spent more than 23 years in healthcare until her retirement in 2017 from St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren and supporting her family with jokes, laughter and her constant love. Ange is preceded in death by her parents, Della and Angelo Somacal. Ange is survived by the love of her life and wife, Joy Tillotson: her 6 children; Kelly Somacal of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Kris Gwartney of Strang, Oklahoma; Tina Reimbold and husband Scott of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Jimmy Gwartney and wife Amanda of Adair, Oklahoma; Sara McPherson and husband Darrell of Euless, Texas; James Tillotson and wife Sarah of Hurst, Texas: her 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; Ariel Reimbold (23), Blake Reimbold (20), Gavin Gwartney (14), Jadyn Gwartney (12), Jackie Gwartney (5), William McPherson (24) and son Cole McPherson (1), Kaitlyn Carlile (19), Kennedy Carlile (15), Lillian Tillotson (12), Joshua Tillotson (7), Phoebe Tillotson (5), and Samuel Tillotson (2): her siblings; Angelo Somacal and Tanya Setzer and husband Chuck: and extended family members and close friends. Ange will be remembered for her passion of making others laugh, her slightly warped nurse humor, her endless teasing of her children and grandchildren (often until somebody would cry), and her ability to love deeply and fiercely those in her circle. Ange was known for her amazing math skills that she often used to help solve her obsession with puzzles. She was also a history buff which would help when her wife Joy would force her to go antique shopping. She was a giant book nerd and loved reading or listening mystery books most of all. Ange taught all her grandchildren to swim, often by throwing them in the swimming pool against their will but would make the best peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as an apology. She was also a great animal lover and was happy to spend more time with her pets then most people. Most of all, Angela Gwartney will be loved and remembered for being someone that you could always count on for smile, a hug and a quick-witted joke. In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Angela Gwartney would be appreciated to the Susan G. Koman Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. The family of Ange wish to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors, techs and especially the nurses at Texas Health that were of great support during her recent battle.
