Albert Borges, Jr., 91, formerly of Fairhaven passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019 at the Care One at New Bedford after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Dianne (Vaughan) Borges and the late Pearl L. (Reece) Borges. Born and raised in New Bedford, son of the late Albert and Dianna (Dumas) Borges, he settled in Fairhaven in 1948 where he was a member of the First Congregational Church. Mr. Borges served in the navy during WWII and the Korean Wars as well as serving in the Coast Guard Reserve in between the two wars. He later worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company from which he retired in 1985 after 38 years with the company. Al served on many town of Fairhaven Boards and Commissions from the Park Commission, Planning Board, Town Meeting Member, the SPREDD Board, the Recreation Commission, Conservation Commission, etc… He was also a longtime member of the 6th Bristol Club, a founder and second president of the Fairhaven Little League, the Fairhaven Lions Club and a member of the Board of Directors of the First Congregational Church. He loved to dance, sing and travel. He is survived by his wife Dianne; sons, Russell Borges and his wife Shirley of Bowingham, Richard A. Borges and his wife Gail of Fairhaven, ME and Randall Borges and his companion Glenna DeSousa of Fairhaven; he was the father of the late Ann Dellecese and her husband Raymond of Dartmouth; four grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and two great, great grandchildren. In accordance with his wishes Al will be cremated and private arrangements are by the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven. For memorial register go to, www.hathawayfunerals.com.
