Wilson’s Obituary Elton-A Mass of Christian Burial for Wilson Joseph Bertrand, S Sgt. Ret. /USAF, will be held on June 22, 2019 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Elton LA. The Rev. Jose Vattakunnel will officiate. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes. Wilson, 89 and ½ years old, passed away quietly at the Southwest Veteran’s Home in Jennings on Sunday, June 16 at 11:30 p.m. Visitation will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until time of service on June 22, 2019. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 12 noon. Wilson, one of five brothers, was born November 25, 1929 in Gueydan, LA to Joseph and Azilda LaPointe Bertrand. He is survived by his brother, LJ Bertrand and wife, Jelena, of Lafayette, LA; step-son, Mike Spaulding and wife, Cleo, of Columbus, MS; and step-grandson, Chris and family, of Columbus, MS; one sister in law, Mattie Bertrand of Oberlin, LA, as well as his nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He also leaves behind his adopted extended family that he cherished and loved as his own, Cathy and Arty Hollingsworth of Elton, Lezlie and Derrick Lafosse of Kinder, LA. and Chris and Daphne Lafosse of Ragley, LA, and their families. Having joined the Air Force following graduation, Wilson served during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts and in various peacetime locations until his retirement. He was particularly honored when he received the Vietnam Recognition Service Pin presented by his great-niece, Kalli McCoy, who represented the Vietnam Veterans Foundation in Washington, DC. He was a man with a generous loving heart who treasured family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Wilson is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Azilda Bertrand; wife, Velma; and three brothers, Cleveland, Dallas and Preston Bertrand. Pallbearers will be: Chris Lafosse, Derrick Lafosse, Braedon Bertrand McCoy, Lance Turner, Brennon Sonnier, and Donavon Stevens. Honorary Pallbearers are: Ryan Bertrand and Glen Bertrand.
