William Owens Jr., aka “ Bill Owens The Great” was born August 4, 1937 in Williamston, North Carolina to the late Gertrude and William Owens Sr. William peacefully entered eternal rest after a lengthy illness Saturday, June 8, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Manning and Betty McGill. William was educated in the public schools in Williamston, North Carolina. In 1953 he met the love of his life Loretta Rodgers. On May 5,1959 they were married and to this union three children were born. William and Loretta celebrated 60 years of marriage on May 5, 2019. William and Loretta resided in Stanford, Connecticut for two years, and later decided to move to Washington, DC. He worked for Cherner Lincoln Mercury in Tyson Corner Virginia as a lot attendant extraordinaire. He loved working for the company and gave over 40 years of devoted service until he retired. He joined St. Judah Spiritual Baptist Church and served on the Usher’s Ministry. He was a faithful member. He loved all types of sports, especially the Washington, Redskins. “Bill Owens The Great” loved to tell jokes. If you needed a laugh, you could definitely count on him to pull one out of his hat. He made numerous friends wherever he went. He loved the Lord and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew him. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his beloved wife Loretta Owens; two daughters Deborah and Vivian; one son Ricky Sr. (Donna); six grandchildren: Dante’, Ricky Jr., James, Sade’, Deonna and Danielle; seven great-grandchildren: Jade, Nyla, Zuri, Amir, Demetrius, Darius and Brooklynn; one sister Patricia Rawls of Williamston, North Carolina; three sisters-in-law: Evelyn Hall, Glendora Lee and Linda Gail Williams; three brothers in-law: Walter E. Rodgers, Jr., Ronald Hall and Linwood Rodgers; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. We will forever Love You “Bill Owens The Great”
