Frade passed away at his home in Yerington on Friday June 14, 2019. He was 81. William Manuel Frade was born July 20, 1937 in Yerington, Nevada to Antonio and Anna Frade. He went by Bill most of his life. He grew up on the Valley Dairy and Frade Ranches and did chores at a early age. Bill participated in 4-H for many years, taking various classes and showing calves. When he was about ten years old, he was awarded the “Beef Showmanship” award. Bill attended the Yerington Schools. In high school, Bill was on the basketball team all four years and the football team his freshman and senior years. He was student body president and part of the FFA organization. After graduating from high school in 1955, Bill attended the University of Nevada-Reno. While attending UNR, he started dating Janice Simmons whom he had met in high school. They were married June 23,1957 in Yerington. Bill went to work at the dairy with his primary job being the ranch which involved growing and managing the crops, taking care of the animals, and maintaining the equipment. Bill and Janice were blessed with three children: Patricia Ann, Donald William, and Nanette Helen. They moved to a ranch just south of the dairy in 1965. Bill was involved with numerous clubs and associations: the 20-30 Club where he was President three times; Lions – he also served as President and was a Lifetime member; the Farm Bureau since 1957; the Advisory Board for the UNR Department of Agriculture; the Dairy Council; the Department of Agriculture Equal Opportunity; the Nevada State Department of Wildlife Commission for 11½ years; Lyon County Agriculture; Committee for United States Department of Agriculture (USDA); and the University of Nevada Newlands Advisory Committee. He was awarded “Farmer of the Year” in March 1973. He also was an assistant coach for the Yerington high school girls basketball team when his daughter Nanette played from 1982-1985. Bill had several accidents during his career as a farmer. In 1964, he was baling one night when the baler had a problem, and while trying to fix it, he accidentally cut his left thumb off. He had a cow kick him in the knee which resulted years later with a knee replacement. in June 1976, he had a 2 ton steel door fall on his back which crushed a couple of vertebras resulting in lifelong back pain. In February 1977, he caught his shirt sleeve in the grain grinder and came close to having his arm cut off. He subsequently had two operations to save his arm. He loved to hunt with friends, his son Donald, and his grandsons Kevin, Kyle, and Korey. He even went bow hunting a few times. He also loved to fish and especially enjoyed fishing with his daughter Nanette. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Anna Frade, and his brother Joseph. He is survived by his wife Janice, his children Patricia Frade of Orem, Utah; Donald and (Jennifer) Frade of Yerington, Nevada; and Nanette and (Kent) Beers of West Jordan, Utah; sisters Louise (John) Barton of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Marianne (Dave) Roberts of Pahrump, Nevada. He has eight grandchildren: Kevin Frade, Kyle Frade, Korey Frade, Jayden Frade, Christopher Beers, Rebecca Beers, Asia Frade, amd Conor Chell, and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Latter-day Saints chapel, 600 North Oregon Street, Yerington, Nevada. A viewing will be held at 10:00-10:45 am at the LDS chapel. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery.
