Tom M. Green, 95, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 1:08 P.M. June 18, 2019 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born March 22, 1924 in Lebanon, Kentucky to Richard and Teresa (Mattingly) Green. He married Ann McDonald on February 18, 1966 in Yellow Springs, Ohio. They were blessed with fifty-three years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his daughters, Kathy Tackitt and fiancé, Heath Waikel of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Sylvia Grandy and husband, Joseph of Portland, Oregon; son, James Richard Green of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Corey Marshall and wife, Kim, Nikki Marshall, Jessica McGraw and husband, Robert, Emily Tackitt; great grandchildren, Trinity, Haylee, Gisella, MollieJo, Haedyn, Chauncey, Xavier, and Garrett; and several nieces and nephews. Tom was the youngest of six and his siblings preceded him in death. Tom served in the United States Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Master Gardener. Tom was a CPA and worked as the Comptroller for Precision National Railway in Mount Vernon for several years. He was a long time A.A. member and was very proud of his long-time sobriety. Tom loved to read and was a strong believer in health and nutrition. A Visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at Hughey Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Newell officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Members of the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery. To honor Toms devotion to A.A. memorial contributions will benefit local A.A participants, checks can be made payable to Ann Green.
