July 12 1951 June 29 2019
Susana Kahn Kanner was born on July 12, 1951 in Cali, Colombia. The youngest of two children, Susy grew up in the bustling city of Cali where her father Walter Kahn was a jewish German immigrant who worked tirelessly to build a life for his family in a foreign land and her mother, Steffi Gordon Kahn, was devoted to her and her sister, Beatriz. She grew up with a very tight knit group of friends from her school, Jorge Isaacs, and loved American music, especially The Beatles. Susy would vacation with her parents and sister in Miami Beach growing up, so it was no surprise when she attended the University of Miami to study art and design. During a visit home to Cali in 1976, her sister introduced her to a tall, dark, handsome Romanian man – Reuven Kanner. Two months later, they were married. They moved to the United States the same year and started their small business of operating a franchise of Sir Speedy Printers which they owned for 39 years. Reuven and Susy made a great team: Susy focused on marketing and building new business, while Reuven managed the store and its operations. With all the complications, stress and worry that comes with owning a small business (and working with your spouse) – they never gave up. They worked tirelessly to make a life for themselves and their family. Along with their children Nicole and Jonathan, they traveled almost every year to Sir Speedy conventions in different cities around the country to learn how to grow and better their store. Susy was even more committed to her big, Colombian family. There was never not a seat at the table for someone who was in Miami from out of town – and there was usually always someone in from out of town. The ultimate hostess, Susy’s family pool party’s / barbecue’s were legendary. She had a very keen sense of style and eye for design, and created custom art pieces for her home. She loved to shop with her sister and mother at New York & Company – a true favorite past time. With her three close friends, she played Mahjong every week and every year went on a cruise together with their winnings. When she and Reuven moved to Aventura, they loved to be by the pool, go to jazz concerts at Pinecrest Gardens, have breakfast at the Boulangerie in Coconut Grove – and enjoy being semi-retired. To know Susy was to love her. And if you knew her, you knew never to call before 11:00am because she was still sleeping. And if you were in the house, you were smart not to make any noise so as to not wake her up. She loved watching The Voice and American Idol. And she loved with all her heart what she considered her grandchildren: Emily, Lucy, Yosi, Manu, Jack and Alex. Let Susy and Reuven’s memories be a blessing to us all. Amen.
