Steven Vail McCullough 2019

2019
Steven “Pop” Vail McCullough passed away June 28, 2019 at the age of 71. Steve was born March 16, 1948 in LaGrange, Georgia to the late William and Ermagean McCullough, and was a current resident of Fayetteville, Georgia. Steve graduated from Walter F. George High School in 1966, and enlisted in the U.S. Army, honorably serving for 3 years in Germany and Vietnam. After his military service, Steve worked for Eastern Airlines, then began a rewarding and successful career with Clayton County Fire Dept in 1974. Steve worked his way through the ranks, and retired after 31+ years at the rank of Battalion Chief. In retirement, Steve stayed busy starting a business, and pursuing wood working, a hobby he always enjoyed. In life, Steve was a professed Christian, and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was quick witted, with a slightly off center sense of humor, and he loved to make people laugh with his corny jokes and observations. He enjoyed fishing whenever he could, cooking (especially on his grill), and had a particular love of the north Georgia Mountains and boxer dogs. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and camping, although his health prevented him from pursuing these in his later years. Steve is a loving husband, father and grandfather to his wife, Amy, children and step children, Jason and Christina McCullough, Elizabeth McCullough, Andrew and Victoria Nix, and Laura and Bobby Crews; grandchildren and step grandchildren, Austin McCullough, Kayla McCullough, Andrew and Jordan McCullough, Graham and Kayla Painter, Jedidiah McCullough, Morgan Crews, Ellison Crews, and Anna Nix; great-grandchildren, Addison McCullough, Gideon Painter, Karlie McCullough, Charlotte McCullough and Ezekiel Painter. Steve was preceded in death only by his parents, and is survived by his wife, children, grand and great grandchildren, as well as his sisters Mara (and Allen) McGiboney, and Elaine (and Carl) Carroll, nieces, nephews, and a long list of loving friends. Memorial services for Steve will be at 12:00 PM on July 2, 2019 at C.J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville. The family will receive visitors 1-hour prior.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Steven Vail McCullough 2019.
