Steven D. Olson, 55, of Papillion, NE and formerly Northwood, IA died tragically on June 18, 2019 in Papillion, NE. A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at First Lutheran Church, 309 9th St N, Northwood, IA 50459, with Rev. Judy Converse officiating. Inurnment will take place in Sunset Rest Cemetery beside his father, Norman Olson. Military Honors will be conducted by Our Buddies Memorial VFW Post #6779. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave. South, Northwood, IA. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church or to support a Veterans’ foundation of your choosing in Steve’s honor. Steve Douglas Olson was born December 4, 1963 in Omaha, NE, the son of Norman and Shirley Olson. He grew up in Newman Grove, was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, and graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1982. Steve enlisted into the United States Army in September 1982, serving as a helicopter crew chief. During his service he was stationed in Honduras for six months. Following his honorable discharge in 1985, Steve returned home to Northwood where his family resided. He worked several jobs in the area, including dispatching at Worth County Sheriffs Office. Steve married Bonnie, the couple were together for several years. Life then took Steve to Des Moines, IA where he continued work as a dispatcher for the City of Des Moines. He also worked as a reserve police officer for departments in the area. In 2012 Steve moved to Omaha, finding work as a dispatcher, and most recently as a Security guard for the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Steve was proud to of served his country as his father did. He loved fishing, hunting and riding his Harley. Steve was a servant: to his country, his family, his Lord, his friends, and those he was sworn to protect. He will be forever remembered by his family and friends for his loving, helpful heart. Left to cherish his memory include his mother, Shirley of Northwood; sister, Dianne (Bob) Bailey of Northwood; nieces, Sarah Odom of Oregon, and Amy (Brandon Wheeler) Odom of Cedar Falls; great-nephew Guster Norman Wheeler; aunts and uncles, Tecla Briggs of Columbus, NE, Robert (Margaret) Olson, of LaMesa, CA, Karl (Rochelle) Olson, of E. Walpole, MA, Roger (Glotia) Olson, of Casa Grande, AZ, and Anita Olson, of Omaha, NE; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. Preceding him in death are his father, Norman; his niece, Carrissa; an infant brother, Darwin; as well as numerous aunts and uncles and his grandparents.
