Obituary Funeral Services for Sherrie Patch, 76 year old Buffalo resident who passed away quietly at her home south of Buffalo Sunday morning, surrounded by her family, will be held Thursday, June 27th at 2:00 p.m. from the Union Congregational Church in Buffalo with Reverend Dr. Anne Hays Egan officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. from the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services to follow the funeral. Donations in Sherrie’s memory may be made to the Bread of Life Food Pantry or the St. Francis Animal Shelter in care of the Harness Funeral at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo. Online condolences may be made at ww.harnessfuneralhome.com Sherrie Virginia Patch was born September 15, 1942 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Ellis and Nellie Patch. She was born the first newborn to live on the family ranch south of Buffalo. She attended country school and walked three-fourths of a mile to school for three years. Later she took a school bus to a larger rural school and eventually shared an apartment with her sisters in Buffalo where she attended Johnson County High School where she graduated with the class of 1960. Sherrie loved field work on the ranch. She also worked at Eaton’s Dude Ranch near Sheridan before going to nursing school in Chicago, where she became a registered nurse before she was 21. In 1960 she was experiencing the big city, awed and a little frightened by the streets, lights, and culture. She discovered some interesting interactions when she attended a black church there, experiences she believed helped shape her understanding of racial tension. She served as a pediatric nurse for two years before moving to Denver. During her seven-year stay in Denver, she received her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Colorado. In 1971 she became a public health nurse for Carbon County (Rawlins, WY) and soon became director of nursing. During her 20 years in that position, she instituted free immunizations, prenatal classes, and she worked with five senior centers in the county once each month. The main responsibility of all the nurses and home health aides was home visits, especially to the sick, elderly and children who were on state health programs. Sherrie enjoyed people wherever she lived. After leaving Rawlins, she moved to Casper where she worked in home health care as an office nurse for 14 years before retiring. However, she had not been one to sit around doing nothing. She spent time at the ranch but also enrolled in classes at Casper College on psychology, drug addiction, literature, and painting. She also loved to read westerns, romance novels, and a variety of other books. Sherrie’s love for her Lord and her church were obvious to anyone who had the privilege of visiting with her. She enjoyed getting members and others involved in the ministry in which she believed our Lord had called all of us to do. Sherrie served on the Mission Committee including managing the card ministry – sending greeting cards to church members and friends for special events. Visitors to Union Congregational were blessed by her welcoming, friendly greeting. She is survived by three sisters, Kathleen McPhee and her husband Ron of Buffalo, Sally Sack and her husband Daniel of Boston, MA, and Shirley Jacob of Buffalo, numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Saralee Haskins, one brother-in-law Bob Jacob and a grand-nephew Christopher Jacob.
