Tootsie On May 29, 2019 at 3:26 AM Sarah Hannah no longer had to worry about being tired because her wish came true to be reunited with her Husband Carl Emory Wanamaker Sr. Sarah Hannah Wanamaker was born in Clayton, Delaware on May 19, 1933. Sarah, affectionately called “Tootsie” in her youth, was the youngest of 9 children born to Risdon & Estella Simmons. Sarah grew up in Clayton, De where she attended The Elementary School for Colored Children and Thomas D Clayton Elementary School. She later graduated from Delaware State High School in Dover De. Sarah (Tootsie) married Carl Emory Wanamaker Sr on May 4th, 1957. To this union two children were born, Sandra C and Carl Jr. Tootsie began her career working for Wheatley’s Cannery and Leeds Travelware. She then retired from the Delaware Home for the Chronically Ill as a CNA in the early 1990’s. Tootsies retirement did not slow her down, any and everything that she did was done with the utmost dedication and focus. Much like her husband Carl kept his Vintage cars & Landscape immaculate, Tootsie was the same with her home and family. She was well known for her wittiness and “Tell it like it is” attitude. Also I’m sure that many of us have enjoyed her fine cooking of homemade Ice Cream, Root Beer, Vegetable Soup and Chicken & Dumplings. She was deeply loved and spoiled by her husband Carl who showered her with the finer things in life. Throughout their marriage the two of them were inseparable. Whether it was Island Vacations, Jazz Fests, Miss America Pageants, car shows or just dinner at the Old Country Buffet, Jimmy’s Grille & Ponzios you never seen one without the other. Later in her life she became a grandmother to Kyle who she often referred to as “Her Baby”. He was the light of her life, and this light only became brighter when he made her a Great Grandmother to Ava London and Asher Knox, her treasures. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband Carl Emory Wanamaker Sr; Parents, Risdon and Estella Simmons; Brothers; Carlton, Clifton, and James. Sister, Clordean. Sarah will be sadly missed by her daughter, Sandra C; son, Carl Jr. (Shelly); only grandson, Kyle E. (Lakia); great grandchildren, Ava London and Asher Knox; sisters. Alpaine, Margaret, Ernestine, Teresa, Gloria and Clynthia; brother in law Edward; devoted family associate Mrs. Eula Mae Oliver and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday June 14, 2019 at 11 am, LIBERTY Baptist church, 2744 Red Lion Road, Bear, DE 19701. Interment, Delaware Veterans Cemetery.
