Robert’s Obituary Robert H. Wahne, Jr., born November 7, 1950, to Robert and Grace Wahne, passed away on June 7, 2019, after an all-too-brief tango with the strongest case of liver cancer the doctors had ever seen. It would have taken such a thing to bring Bob down, due in large part to his German constitution and general well-intentioned stubbornness. Bob grew up on the family farm in Elmendorf, and he was a South Texas farmer, through and through. A product of Catholic education through St. Cecilia’s and Central Catholic, Bob graduated from St. Mary’s University with a degree in finance and many fraternity brothers in Tau Delta Sigma. His ROTC training took him into Army and Reserves service upon graduation, where he truly enjoyed his jobs in artillery. After separation from military life, Bob transitioned his love of big guns to a love of big tractors, raising a family and farming in Jourdanton, Pearsall, and surrounding areas. He was active in Farm Bureau and Young Farmers, and he could talk bushels, yields, and moisture content for hours on the phone with his many farming friends. Farming, deer hunting, and his family remained the great loves of his life. Bob is survived by his wife, Susan Ploch; his two daughters, Bridget Vurgich (husband Greg), and Mary Baker (husband Joe), and two grandchildren Alex and Amelia; two sisters, Marilyn (husband Tony) Magaro and Joan (husband Bobby) Saucedo, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family would like to thank Fr. Jorge of Sacred Heart Church, as well as the many friends who came by to visit and cheer Bob up in his illness. He wasn’t used to being sick, having never been so in his life, and he said he didn’t care for retirement much, under the circumstances. He’ll be waiting for everyone else to catch up, in his Stetson and Wranglers. Donations in memoriam, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Mary’s University or the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will begn at 5:00 P.M., and a rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel, in Floresville, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, officiated by Father Jorge Campos-Covarrubias. Cremation will follow services. Serving as pallbearers will be Anthony John Magaro, Roy Wahne, John Ploch, Larry Cisneros, Christopher Nassar, Jason Pfiel, Matthew Moczygemba, and Kenneth Bayer. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Cory Duesterhaus, Tim Cannon, Chuck Tarrillion, Nicholas Nassar, Andy Grothues, David Pfeil, and Jeffrey Lothringer. Read More
