Richard’s Obituary Richard L. White, aka “Whitey”, passed peacefully in the arms of Jesus with his family by his side Friday after a courageous 4 ½ year battle with ALS. He was 81. Born Aug. 19, 1937 on the farm in Montgomery County, he was the son of Oran G. White and Bertie Lee Cooksey White. He attended Crawfordsville schools. He married Catherine Evelyn Endicott in October 1959 at Darlington. She survives. Dick loved racing, watching Wabash basketball and enjoyed mowing and taking care of his farm. He was a regular at McDonald’s and Wal-Mart. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He worked at California Pellet Mill, Crawfordsville Seed Company and the Indiana Dept. of Transportation, retiring from there. He also served in the National Guard. Surviving family includes: wife, Catherine Evelyn White of Crawfordsville; son, Michael “Mickey” White (Lisa) of Madison, Indiana; daughter, Melanie Edwards (Tom) of Crawfordsville; eight grandchildren, Heather, Michelle, Josh, Kayla, Karly, Nathan, J.T. and Charity; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry White (Janet), Jerry White (Teresa); sister, Sharon Rose (Teddy); as well as his Yorkie and best friend, Liberty Bell. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joyce Wright, brother, David Lee White, and grandson, Tommy Edwards. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 PM Sunday, June 9 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash, Crawfordsville. Services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, June 10th at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
