Richard “Dickie” Junior Kershner, 80, of Hot Springs, passed away Friday, May 31, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 1, 1938, in Bath County, the only child of the late Mary Betty Kershner. On December 5, 1960, he married Alma Sue “Susie” Armstrong. Dickie served in the U.S. Navy 1955-1959 and with the U.S. Army 1960-1963. He retired from The Homestead in 2000 as a banquet set-up supervisor, then returned to Omni Homestead as a golf attendant. He was a member of Virginia Chapel United Methodist Church, VFW Post #4204 – Hot Springs, Coleman-Brinkley Post, and Hound Dog Hunt Club. An avid outdoorsman, Dickie, enjoyed hunting, fishing and also loved to try and beat his son at a game of golf. He was not only good with people but loved all animals, especially their late beloved poodle “Precious.” Above all, he dearly loved his grandchildren and family. In addition to his wife “Susie” of 58 years, he is survived by his daughter Kathy McCune and husband, Carl; son Dale Kershner and wife, Robbie, all of Hot Springs; five grandchildren Malorie Joy Oakley, Trista Kershner and fiancé Marcus Sewell, Trenton Kershner, Nevada Kershner and Utah Kershner; one great-grandson, Colton Kershner; special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joy and Carl Chestnut; special nephew, Brandon Woodzell and wife, Stacey and their children Blake and Layni; special cousins Johnny Kershner and wife, Terry and Sue Ailstock and husband, Bart; as well as, numerous other cousins. He was predeceased by several aunts and uncles, whom he considered siblings. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Virginia Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Lorrie Aikens officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Virginia Chapel United Methodist Church, 81 Wilkinson Ave, Hot Springs, Va. 24445 or Mountain Regional Hospice, 537 Main St Unit 2, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.
