Nelson E. Flanigan, 88, of Lebanon, passed away with his family by his side, to be reunited with the love of his life, on Sunday, June 2, 2019 in Colchester. Born on May 21, 1931 in Meriden, he was a son of the late Charles and Madeline (Homan) Flanigan. Nelson was educated in the Meriden Schools and also attended Goodwin Technical School. Nelson was a proud veteran having served with the US Navy during the Korean War. In later years, Nelson joined the American Legion, Post 180 in Lebanon. He married his beloved wife Mary Carbone on January 31, 1953. The couple settled in Meriden and raised their family there. Mary and Nelson moved to their retirement home in Lebanon in 2000. Mary predeceased him on January 22nd of this year. Nelson retired several years ago after a long and successful career as a plumber with the Pipefitter’s Union, Local 777. He was an avid outdoorsman throughout his life. He especially enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved to tell stories about his trips, adventures and outings. Nelson was a life member of the Bigelow-Howard Valley Game Club. Some of his favorite memories were made during family vacations to Cape Cod. He will be remembered as a devoted family man who had a hard strength of character with a soft heart. He leaves to mourn his passing a sister, Dorothy Flanigan of Meriden, sisters-in-law Florence Flanigan of Norwich and Josephine Carbone of Southington. Also his three children and their spouses, Karen (Thomas) King of Ashford, Lori (David) Ducat of Lebanon, Larry (Diane) Flanigan of Cromwell; nine grandchildren, Erin, Ian, Noah, Jennifer, Leah, Emily, Brittany, Sean and Kelly; nine great grandchildren, Braxton, Addison, Parker, Paxton, Sawyer, Emma, Elias, Kynlee, and Violet; and numerous extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three siblings, Wesley Flanigan, Ruth Zawacki and Lois Britney. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Apple Rehab of Colchester and Beacon Hospice for their support. At Nelson’s request there will be no calling hours. Burial will be private.
