She was born February 4, 1929 in Matagorda, TX to Frank E. and Nora Lee Schmerber Bell. Nell was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother whose family was blessed with her unconditional love. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as coordinator of 6 departments in the church nursery from 1965-1980. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2438 Ladies Auxiliary and a longtime member of the Bay City Book Review Club. She was also a proud member of the “El Zarape gang”. Thanks to her niece Dodie Bradley for getting her there every Thursday. Crabbing in Matagorda and bringing family together were her favorite pastimes. Nell graduated Bay City high school in 1944 working as a bookkeeper first at Long Theater then Alamo Lumber Company. She then spent many years as a real estate broker in the area. Nell was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Wendell Owen Middleton, her parents Frank E. and Nora Lee Bell, three sisters Irene Bell Jinks, Gladys Bell Lane and Ellanora Bell Hartsfield, two brothers Bob Bell and Floyd Bell. She is survived by sister Doris Bell Moberley of Matagorda, TX and two brothers Bill Bell of Bay City and Don Bell of Navasota, TX. She is also survived by two sons Gary Middleton & wife Sharon of Alvin, TX and Bruce Middleton & wife Hope of Spring, TX; one daughter Terri Turk & husband Steve of Conroe, TX; five grandchildren Kirk Middleton & wife Laura of Friendswood, TX, Scott Middleton & wife Suzanna of Kennesaw, GA, Derrick Turk & wife Katherine of Pearland, TX, Douglas Turk of Spanish Fort, Alabama and Holly Middleton Stern & husband Samson of Spring, TX; twin great-grandsons Joshua Owen Middleton and Noah John Middleton; two great-granddaughters Nicole Middleton and Bella Rose Middleton. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5PM until 7PM Friday, June 21, 2019 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00AM Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Gary Middleton, Bruce Middleton, Kirk Middleton, Scott Middleton, Derrick Turk and Douglas Turk. Honorary pallbearers will be son-in-law Steve Turk, nephews Bill Bell, Jr., Tim Bell, Bobby Bell, Barry Bell, Claude Jinks, John Jeff Mangum, Chip Hartsfield and great nephews Pearson Jinks and Cody Lefevre. Among her hand-written notes, Nell left two thoughts. “Jesus knows me, thisI love” and “May you always have a shell in your pocket and sand between your toes.” Special thanks to longtime “caregiver and angel” Veronica Ramirez. Also Rocio Garcia, Brenda Trevino, the Angels Care Home Health, Dr. Fabricio Zuniga and the kind staff at Matagorda Regional Medical Center.
