Maudie Luella Mootz November 13, 1916 – June 10, 2019 Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Maudie Mootz, age 102, of Larimore, ND, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019 in the Good Samaritan Society-Larimore. Maudie Luella Georgeson was born November 13, 1916 to Edward and Pearl (Kelley) Georgeson. Maudie attended school in Niagara, going on to Mayville State Teacher’s College. She began teaching in country schools at the age of 17. Maudie married Richard Mootz on February 8, 1938. Their marriage was kept a secret so she could continue teaching. Richard and Maudie had 5 children. Maudie taught at several rural schools and was very active in the community. She served about 20 years on the school boards of Niagara and Unity Public School, was an active member of the Niagara Congregational Church, Niagara Civic Club and Niagara Homemaker’s Club. Later Maudie joined the Methodist Church in Larimore and taught Sunday School over 30 years, served as treasurer for the UMW and the church treasurer for 21 years, and as a treasurer for the Larimore Senior Citizens. Everyone that knew Maudie, knows how much she loved to “work with figures”. Richard died on December 31, 1972 and Maudie continued to run the family farm. Overseeing her “good renters”. In 1981 Maudie moved into Larimore, enjoying trips with friends and her girls, gardening, faithfully keeping her diary for over 70 years, working and scoring the daily crossword puzzle, doing her daily devotions, recording her daily diet and never ever passing up a game of whist or bridge. Maudie is survived by four daughters: Elaine (Jim) Cottrell, Niagara; Ethel Beaver, Niagara; Marilyn (Dave) Tingum, Murfreesboro, TN; and Patsy (Larry Priewe) Strand, Larimore; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a very special neighbor Pat Sullivan. Maudie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard; son Allen (Joe) Mootz; brother and sister-in-law Richard (Dick) and Marie Georgeson; grandchildren Joseph Mootz and Julie Brueckner; great-great-grandson Jayson Brueckner; and son-in-law Donald Beaver. FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Larimore. VISITATION: Thursday, June 13 from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service in the church on Friday. INTERMENT: Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore.
