Mary Louise Herndon Durham February 04, 1936 – June 18, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Memorial Donation Mary Louise Durham, 83, of Charlottesville, Virginia, died on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at her home. Born at home on February 4, 1936 in Albemarle County, she was the daughter of Herman Jesse Herndon and Mildred Earl Marshall. She was preceded in death by her brother, Herman Jesse Herndon, Jr.; her sister, Mildred Wise Huffman; and her son, Robert Lee “Chip” Durham the third. Mary Lou was a great daughter to her parents. She loved her mother and father dearly. Mary Lou cared for her mother for many years, until her death in 2004. Mary Lou was always a great mother to both of her children. Though a single mother, her children never wanted for anything. She was entirely self-made and independent. She is proof that anything can be done, especially in love. Mary Lou was always in the mood to dance and enjoy herself, through music, good food, and sunshine. She worked tirelessly to ensure the success of her little family. Mary Lou’s daughter Michele is so proud of her mother. Mary Lou was an amazing mother, but an even better grandmother. Her granddaughter was her whole world. Mary Lou and Schuyler were always partners in crime. There was never a moment that we didn’t feel Mary Lou’s love. She will be greatly missed. Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, D. Michele Durham; her granddaughter, Schuyler Marshall Arave; her niece, Heidi Huffman Maurince; as well as her great nieces and nephews, Madison, Morgan, and Parker Maurince. Special thank you to Mary Jones, Barbara Eubanks, and Laverne Mosby-Rush, her sitters that took the very best care of “Miss Mary.” In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial contributions to be made to Hospice of Piedmont.
