Marshall Thomas, 85, of Johnson City, TN, was greeted at Heaven’s Gate Thursday, June 27, 2019. A native of Yancey County, in the Bowditch community, he was son of the late Rev. Casie and Elsie Laws Thomas. He was also preceded in death by brothers: Ernest and Eugene Thomas. Marshall was a US Air Force Veteran. He enjoyed reading and studying his Bible, and singing songs given to him by the Lord. He was a dedicated pastor and evangelist for many years. Surviving are his wife of 17 years: Marlena Thomas; daughters: Wanda Martin and husband, Jimmy, of Nebo, NC, Martha Jones and husband Tony, of Unicoi, TN, Diane Silvers and husband, William, of Burnsville, and A. J. Midura and husband, Allen, of Winston Salem; sons: Jeremiah Duncan of Johnson City, Rickey Thomas of Nebo, and Randall Thomas (Diane) of Banner Elk; 12 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 6 great, great grandchildren; sisters: Lessie Cook of Maryville, TN, Bernice Phillips and Christine Morgan of Mars Hill, and Louise Dockery of Marion; brothers: Larry Thomas of Burnsville, Jim Thomas of Chesnee, SC and Bill Thomas of Fort Myers, FL; and, many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4PM Sunday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Revs. Wesley Ward and Rickey Thomas, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in the Casie Thomas Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4PM Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.
