Marj’s Obituary Mary Marjorie Neilson, age 94, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Country Meadows of the West Shore. Born April 5, 1925 in Sharon, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Henry and Yvonne Poirier. Marj maintained an active and service-oriented life during her time as a stay-at-home mom. She was always involved in church activities as well as her children’s numerous activities. Once her children were older, Marj took a position with Harrisburg Hospital as a typist and began taking some college courses. She was active with all things relating to Harrisburg Hospital, from nurse recruitment to health fairs. She ultimately retired as the Director of Volunteer Services. In her free time, Marj enjoyed traveling, her pets, bowling, was a member of the Red Hat Society, and was an avid knitter, donating many of her projects to various causes. Surviving are her children, Marilyn Minoff and husband Alex, Deborah Maff and husband Edward, Douglas Neilson, Christine Topalian and husband Richard, and Cynthia Felisberto and husband Antonio; nine grandchildren; and her sister, Marilyn Sloggett. She was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Poirier. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 13 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 310 Hertzler Road, Mechanicsburg, where there will be a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
