Whelan, age 87, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Signature Healthcare of North Hardin. Louis was born May 31, 1932 in Battletown, KY to the late Willie Whelan and Mary Louise Lampkin Whelan. Louis was United States Army Veteran of the Korean War; a self-employed painter and contractor and a former member of the Payneville VFW. Louis also enjoyed Country Music and loved to dance and was a participant at the Meade County Senior Citizens Center. In his younger years Louis enjoyed rabbit and squirrel hunting. His grandparents, Harrison and Ines Lampkin and John and Amanda Whelan; brother, Hilary Charles Whelan; sisters, Hazel Marlene Whelan Benham and Norma Jean Singleton and his loving companion of 27 years Anna Tenney preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, William “Bill” (Beverly) Whelan of Florence, KY and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 12:30 P.M. EDT from the Chapel of Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY with Military Honors. Visitation will be held Monday, June 17 from 4-8 P.M. EDT and Tuesday after 9 A.M. EDT at the funeral home.
