Lois Buck Dollens June 22, 1923 – June 27, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Memorial Donation Lois Buck Dollens died peacefully at home on June 27, 2019 in Staunton, Virginia. Born in Richmond, Va. on June 22, 1923, she was the eldest child of Ethel Perkins Buck and John Richard Buck. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jeremiah T. Dollens; a sister, Bernice B. Bickers; a brother, Paul K. Buck and a grandson, Eric J. Herron. Lois spent her early childhood living at Byrd Mill in Louisa County followed by a move to Charlottesville where she and her siblings grew up. After graduating from high school, Lois started her career at Sears, Roebuck & Co.in Charlottesville where she worked until her retirement, many of those years as Manager of Catalog Sales. It was at Sears that she met her husband, Jerry. In her retirement she loved to travel and spend time with her family. She treasured her relationships and diligently maintained contact with her loved ones through calls, cards and letters. She spent the last years of her life sharing a home with her daughter Jerry Ann and son-in-law Alex. She is survived by her brothers, Cary R. Buck (Elnor) and David C. Buck; her son, Herbert A. Moore, Jr. (Nancy) and her daughter, Jerry A. Dollens-Herron (Alex). In addition she is survived by cherished grandchildren Lindsay S. Moore (Ophir), Hilary M. Hebert (Mike), Justin T. Moore (Wendy), Jon M. Herron (Ashley) and Kate A. Slaymaker (Justin) and 11 great-grandchildren. Lois is also survived by her beloved nieces, nephews and cousins who remained very close to her through the years. The family would like to thank caregivers Laurie Mayall and Gwen Stephenson, who were Lois’ companions and friends for the last several years of her life. A special thanks to Dr. Joshua Greenhoe for his many years of compassionate care, and to the staff of Hospice of the Shenandoah for the comfort and support provided in the last months of her life. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Cherry Avenue Christian Church, Charlottesville, VA.
