WESTBROOK–Lloyd Dale Blackstone, 87, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16, 2019. He was born on June 17, 1931 in Perham, Maine, the 5th child of Read W. and Addie (Fox) Blackstone. He attended Perham and Washburn schools, graduating in 1950. Lloyd grew up working on the family farm which included dairy cattle, oats, and potatoes. In 1952, Lloyd was drafted in to the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He served as a Corporal in the Medical Corp at the Army base in Thule, Greenland and later was stationed at Murphy Army Hospital in Boston until his discharge in 1954. In 1955 he attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. and then attended Maine Vocational Technical Institute in South Portland, Maine graduating from the diesel automotive course in 1957. After graduation, Lloyd married Anita Adams and began working at Merrill Transport in Portland where he was employed for four years. In 1961, Lloyd and Anita moved to Presque Isle where Lloyd began working as a lab technician for his brother, Dr. Donald Blackstone’s orthodontic practice for 36 years until his full retirement in 2001. Lloyd and Anita retired to Westbrook, celebrating their 60th anniversary in 2017. During retirement, Lloyd worked part-time at Hannaford, and loved his gardening in the summer, getting corn ready for a late night treat. He is survived by his loving wife, Anita Blackstone; children, Timothy Blackstone and his wife Kristi, Susan Lombardo and her husband Tony, and Robin Viola and her husband Philip, son in law, Scott Rolfe; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and a sister, Wilma Olsen and her husband Rev. Clifford Olsen. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Bernard, Clayton, and Donald Blackstone; and his beloved daughter, Chrystal Blackstone Rolfe. A period of visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 5pm to 7pm at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 35 Church St., Westbrook, ME 04092. A funeral service will be held at the chapel on Saturday, June 22 at 10am with burial to follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park.
