Obituary Lee Roy “Peanut” Smith, age 77 of Columbia City, IN, formerly of Perry County, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at his home in Columbia City, IN. He was born on March 11, 1942 in Happy, KY to the late Lloyd & Flora Burdine Smith. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by one son: Kevin Smith; three bothers: Earl Smith, Bill Smith & Lloyd Jr. “Sarge” Smith; as well as two sisters: Pearl Decker & Madeline Parke. Peanut was a graduate of Dilce Combs Memorial High School, as well as a graduate of Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY. In 1963 after graduating college, he joined his brother Bill to open Smith Brothers Standard Oil Station. After retiring the business in 2002, he continued to operate Smith Brothers Towing & Recovery alongside his son, Kent. Peanut was an avid University of Kentucky Basketball fan, who also enjoyed hanging out by the pool with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years: Wanda Sue Smith; one son: Kent A. Smith (Pam) of Columbia City, IN; one daughter: Kristi L. Jordan (A.J.) of Peru, IN; one daughter-in-law: Brenda J. Smith of Columbia City, IN; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of family and friends.
