Laura (Sandy) May Peterson, 93, died on June 13, 2019 at Country Meadows Place in Mason City, Iowa. Private inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorials may be directed to the ‘Special Opportunities Foundation’, 2225 Country Club Dr., Mason City, Iowa 50401. Special Opportunities Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to help parents and guardians of special needs individuals. Laura was born in Riverside, California on February 22, 1926 to Roscoe and Ella May (Clemens) Sanders. She received her education in Mason City, Iowa, graduating with the MCHS Class of 1943. She and Cecil Peterson were married in Mason City and honey mooned in Minneapolis. After working 17 years at Mason City Warehouse/Carroll Sales as an executive secretary and accountant, she and the family moved to California. She worked at J.C. Penney Co, nine years and Huntington Beach Union High School District, Huntington Beach, California for 15 years. After retirement, she and Cecil moved to Salton Sea, California and then returned to Mason City, residing at 212 South Tennessee Place, Mason City. She loved her God, Family & church and enjoyed volunteering at KCMR and Community Kitchen amongst others. Laura was a fiercely independent woman who managed the household and all her affairs until she was 90 years old. Failing health finally forced her to move to assisted living for the last three years where she continued to exercise, lift weights and stay as active as she could. Survivors include a son, Ross Peterson of Fullerton, CA. and three grandchildren, Brett, Kayla and Laura. She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil, her daughter Marianne Ronan and her parents, Rosco and Ella Mae Sanders, a sister Doris Pohlman.
