Poland- Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 3 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street in Boardman, with Reverend Gayle Catinella officiating for Laddie J. Fedor, 94, formerly of Struthers and retired Superintendent of Struthers City Schools, who passed away Sunday morning, June 2, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Mr. Fedor was born August 5, 1924 in Campbell, the son of the late John and Mary (Hudak) Fedor, and was a life-long area resident of Struthers. He was a 1942 graduate of Struthers High School. Mr. Fedor served 3 years during World War II in General Patton’s 3rd Army, a Sergeant in the 575th AAA Battery, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Fedor was a 1949 graduate of Y.S.U., president of his senior class which presented the college with the rock and plaque at the university entrance. He received his Master Degree from Columbia University in 1953 and did additional course studies at Akron University, Westminster College and Ohio University. Mr. Fedor did research work for IBM under Dr. Rowe with the institution of electric typewriters into the classroom. He published five articles in the Business Journals regarding the teaching of typing on electrics. In 1952, Mayor Milligan of Struthers, requested him to set up the operation for collecting a wage tax for Struthers; along with his teaching, he operated the tax office as Tax Commissioner. In 1963, he took a leave of absence from school to work in the newly organized Sheet & Tube Research Center in Boardman as Assistant, recruiting technical personnel. Mr. Fedor returned to education as a principal of Fifth Street School in 1964. In 1967, he became the High School Principal, and in 1970, Assistant Superintendent, retiring as Superintendent of Struthers City Schools in 1986. He belonged to many professional organizations; NEA, OEA, Past President on NEOTA, was chairman of the Struthers High School Education Department, Past President of Struthers Education Association, the Ohio Elementary Principals, Mahoning Valley Principals, Tri County Elementary Principals, Phi Delta Kappa, Struthers Credit Union, AASA, BASA, OSBA, Treasurer of Struthers Rotary and received the Paul Harris Fellows Award, Life member in V.F.W. Post # 3538, the American Legion, Struthers Croquet Club, Treasurer of the Struthers Community Chest, Past Treasurer of the Struthers Historical Society and instrumental in maintaining the flower garden, was elected to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities in 1949, was an active member in the development and construction of the Struthers Memorial at Struthers High School and was a long-time member of St. John’s Episcopal Church on Wick Avenue in Youngstown for 65 years. His wife of 64 years, the former Shirley Gill of Sharon, PA, whom he married on December 18, 1954, preceded him in death on March 11, 2019. Mr Fedor is survived by his daughter, Sharon L. (Wayne) Korte of North Olmsted; and a son, L. David Fedor of Poland. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Matica and Betty Burns; and two brothers, Frank and John Fedor. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from noon until 2:45 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman. Interment will be at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Struthers Historical Society, 50 Terrace Street, Struthers, Ohio 44471 or St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44503 or to Struthers Rotary Scholarship Fund, 110 Poland Avenue, Struthers, Ohio 44471, in memory of Mr. Fedor. The family would like to thank the residents and staff of Shepherd of the Valley in Poland whom Laddie considered as a second family, the medical staff at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, and the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Valley.
