Kenneth “Merritt” Bates age 82, of Senecaville, OH passed away Friday, May 31, 2019 at his home of natural causes. He was born June 12, 1936 in Caldwell, OH a son of the late William R. and Marie Bates. He owned his own radio station, WBBY based out of Sunbury, OH for many years. He also worked for Hammond Electronics and Roush Honda. Merritt enjoyed golfing, playing pool, bowling, Karaoke, and watching his grandkids play sports. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his children’s mother Marilyn Bates. Those left to cherish his memory are his son Bryan C. (Connie Bates) of Mason, OH; daughter Kendra Bates of Cincinnati, OH; grandsons Zachary Bates, Joshua Bates, and Jakob Bates; former wife Mary Bates of Senecaville. He is also survived by several friends. The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation Friday, June 7, 2019 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A memorial service will conclude visitation Friday, June 7, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Evangelist Jim Moore officiating.
