Ken was born on August 4, 1937 in Elyria, Ohio to Elmer and Alta Phillips (nee: Pixley). He is survived by his brother, Lauren James of Elyria, son Earl (Nancy) of Collinsville, IL and daughters Donita (Joseph) Abraham of Amherst and Kimberley (Joseph) Lyons of Geneva, IL. He is also survived by eight much loved grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife Mary Phillips (nee: Addair) and his parents Elmer and Alta Phillips (nee: Pixley). Ken was the proud owner of Scott’s Barbershop in Elyria for over thirty years, and always said that his customers were the very best part of being a “Baldheaded” barber. He was also the former Pastor of Elyria Bible Church, where he loved serving his congregation. Ken loved fishing, hunting and going to auctions and flea markets. Ken will be remembered for loving and caring for his family, telling “dad” jokes and for his willingness to help anyone in need. Friends may call Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 p.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mercy New Life Hospice at foundation.mercy.com or AHERO (America’s Heroes Enjoying Recreation Outdoors) at aherousa.com.
