Karen Helene Sisson Christiansen Baker passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. She was born on November 11, 1946 to Agnes (Rapp) and Charles Sisson. Karen loved the home arts including sewing, cooking and parenting. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the State University of New York at Oneonta and a master’s degree in clothing and textiles at Utah State University. She taught at Weber State University as well as at Satellite High School in Satellite Beach, Florida. Teaching at the high school was like paid community service to Karen because she was teaching teenagers to understand themselves, kids, friends, and family. Karen married Boyd Christiansen on August 31, 1968 in Central Bridge, NY. They had 4 children together: Brenda, Bryan (Paula), Bethany and Barbara (Miles). Several years after Boyd’s death Karen married Philip Baker on November 17, 1994 in San Diego, CA and acquired 4 bonus children: Gary (Karin), Michael (Janice), Don (Lisa), and Diane. Karen lived in many places in her life including New York, Louisiana, Florida, Pennsylvania and Utah. She participated in the Hill Cumorah pageant as a cast and staff member for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking, working with children, traveling, family history and serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Karen is survived by her 8 children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A private family memorial will be held in Karen’s honor.
