Julia Gladwyn O’Steen, 73, of Asheboro, NC, died Monday, June 10, 2019, at her residence. Memorial services will be held at a later date. A native of Stanley Co., NC, Ms. O’Steen was born July 4, 1945, the daughter of the late Thomas and Ruby Sides Osteen. She graduated from East Carolina University, class of 1967, with a bachelor’s degree in music. She was very creative with her music and had a dramatic flair. Teaching music to children was her passion and she had a true love for animals. Her career teaching led her from North Carolina to Georgia, Louisiana, Texas and finally finishing in South Carolina. Survivors include her daughter, Rev. Alison Messick-Watkins and husband Rev. Robert Watkins of Huntersville, NC; brother, Chris O’Steen and wife Darlene of Leland, NC; grandchildren, Chelsea Watkins, Perry Watkins; and nephew, Patrick O’Steen of Apex, NC.
