Joyce’s Obituary Joyce Ann Miller, age 72, of, Ackley, Iowa, was born the daughter of Henry R. and Lela (Walters) Uhlenhopp on December 14, 1946, at home in Aplington, Iowa. She graduated from the Aplington High School in 1965. During this time, she enjoyed baton twirling with the band and competing in high school track. Joyce was married to Frank Miller and the couple were later divorced. Through the years Joyce worked at the Ackley School as a Custodian, Maple Manor Nursing home in Aplington and then also as a Nurses Aid at Ackley Presbyterian Home, now known as Grand JiVantĂ©, where she retired in 2009. Joyce was a member of Harvest Baptist Church in Ackley, where she was baptized into the Christian faith and she enjoyed volunteered cleaning. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and sewing. Joyce looked forward to going out for morning coffee and lunch with her friends and classmates. She loved spending time with her grandchildren especially when they stayed with her and also enjoyed attending their sporting events. Perhaps her greatest times were spent when the family would all get together. Joyce passed away Monday, April 29, 2019, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Donald Uhlenhopp. Joyce is survived by two daughters, Cindy (Allen) Renken of Decorah, IA, and Stacy (Warren) Beattie of Monroe, IA; six grandchildren, Kyle Renken, Brandon Stevens, Haley Stevens, Tessa Stevens, Jadyn Hessenius and Jonas Buchanan; one great-granddaughter, Clara Stevens; two brothers, Melvin (Myrna) Uhlenhopp of Ackley, IA, and Merle (Norrell) Uhlenhopp of Aplington; two sisters, Sharon Pruin of Aplington, IA, and June (Clarence) Karsjens of Parkersburg, IA; one sister-in-law, Lois Uhlenhopp of Aplington; and several nieces and nephews. Joyce is also survived by a very special friend of 43 years, Jim Cockerham. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2019, at the Aplington Baptist Church, with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery both Aplington. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington, (319)346-1534, and one hour before services at the church.
